July 3 – Day 3

The third day of Shad Valley 2012 began with an early 6:00 am wake-up call from my friendly alarm clock. For the past two days, I have woken up in my bed at Hedden Hall forgetting that I am many miles away from my home. I continue to be amazed.

Soon after a nutritious and delicious breakfast, one of the two guest speakers of the day provided our community of Shad Valley participants a hands-on experience. It was a workshop which involved group communication, imagination and marshmallows! Yes, it was the Marshmallow Challenge. From this experience, we realized the potential of our success with the use of the proper design process.

In preparation for our Shad Valley Entrepreneurship Cup project, our second guest speaker of the day educated the Shad Valley community on how to define problems and develop the solutions to them.

Our day also consisted of activities pertaining to what we have learned throughout the day. Such activities included building and replicating other groups’ “time machines”.

For recreation, Shads here at McMaster enjoyed about one hour worth of Afro-Latino dancing.

This exciting and brain-stimulating day at Shad Valley ended with a storytelling game.
